Literacy

We are now in Unit 4 of Literacy! We are working on the Unit 4 sight words. We are also working on short vowel sounds, segmenting, blending, and ending sounds. We are continuing our work on writing narrative stories and are continuing to discuss how to fill out an IPlanner. This week we discussed using sequence words when retelling a story such as: first, next, then, last, after, before, finally. For writing this week we took the story, I Love Saturdays Y Domingos, and wrote the events in an IPlanner and retold the story using sequence words.

Math

We are now in Unit 4 of Math! We are counting on our number chart everyday and also counting our straws. We talk about how many straws are in the tens and ones place, and how we bundle them when we get to a set of ten. This week we discussed sorting and how we can sort items into different groups many different ways. We played a game called, Guess My Rule, were I call a few children up to the front of the room and put them in two groups. Then I have the children tell me which group one of their friends would go in. Then they try to guess my rule! The children have to really pay attention to what each person in the group has the same. Some of the rules for this week were: Short sleeves/long sleeves, Ponytail/hair down, Long hair/short hair, Shoes that tie/shoes that velcro. We will continue to play this game next week!

Science

We continued our unit of weather this week! We continued to track the weather each day as a part of our morning routine. This week we talked about what makes the earth warm. We then did an investigation and tested sand, rock, soil, and water in the sun and in the shade to see if sunlight makes them warmer.
